अर्जुन ने भगवान से पूछा कि कृपा करके विस्तार से अपनी उन विभूतियों और ऐश्वर्यों को बतायें, जिनके द्वारा आप इन समस्त लोकों में व्याप्त हैं। अतएव भगवान अपनी विभूतियों की ओर संकेत करते हुए कहते हैं - हे अर्जुन ! समस्त जीवों के ह्रदय में आत्मा बनकर मैं ही बैठा हूँ। सभी प्राणियों का आदि भी मैं हूँ, मध्य भी मैं हूँ और अंत भी मैं ही हूँ। तात्पर्य यह है कि जन्म से लेकर मृत्यु तक की पूरी यात्रा परमात्मा ही सम्पन्न करवा रहा है। न जन्म जीव की इच्छा से है, न जीवन और न ही मृत्यु। सब कुछ परमात्मा के द्वारा ही हो रहा है। आगे भगवान ने कहा कि इस सम्पूर्ण ब्रह्माण्ड में जड़-चेतन जो कुछ भी है, उन सबमें मैं ही बैठा हुआ हूँ। एक भी चीज ऐसी नहीं है, जो बिना मेरे हो। पुरे अस्तित्व की आधार शिला मैं ही हूँ। कण - कण और रज-रज में मैं ही व्याप्त हूँ। उपनिषदों में भी यही कहा गया है।

Arjun asked the Lord to please tell in detail those glories and opulences by which You pervade all these worlds. That's why God pointing to His Vibhutis says - O Arjuna! I am the soul sitting in the heart of all living beings. I am the beginning, the middle and the end of all beings. The meaning is that the whole journey from birth to death is being completed by God. Neither birth is by the will of the soul, nor life nor death. Everything is happening through God only. Further God said that whatever is inert-conscious in this entire universe, I am sitting in all of them. There is not a single thing that can exist without me. I am the foundation stone of the whole existence. I am pervaded in every particle and every grain. The same has been said in the Upanishads.
